What are the Selmanaires? and Do they Rock?

The Selmanaires are a new Atlanta band I have spent the past month or so getting to know well (musically, not physically or spiritually). I would like to take the opportunity to introduce you to these young men.

Like a moment of deja vu, you will instantly feel like you know these guys. They are similar to many great bands, yet sound like nothing else you have heard. Unless you listen (at the same time) to Dick Dale and the Deltones, the Kinks, The Zombies, Devo, The Talking Heads, early 77s, and the Beta Band (all of whom I like).

The first song on the CD (Selmaniare Rock) affected me in a way I have not experienced since hearing the Beat Band's "Dry the Rain" during the film High Fidelity. Music does not usually sound this laid back, cool and danceable. Some will compare them to Arcade Fire, the Killers, Wolf Parade, the Bravery or Clap Your Hands Say Yeah (because they use similar source material), but these guys stand on their own, with the potential to be better than all of those bands (sans Arcade Fire).

Check them out here. download the single Images. You can buy the CD here.
