3 Unrelated, but interesting articles

Originally in the LA Times, this article sheds some discomforting light on food safety and the use of gloves in food preparation at restaurants. Hopefully, you are not eating at a deli today.

Another article on the real costs of those low prices at your friendly neighborhood Walmart (for Rudy C). It is from the New York Times, so I am reprinting it from another blog, so you do not have to register with the Times to read it. It points out that our desire for low prices (dang the consequences) drives this machine, not Walmart.

Senator Lindsay Graham, the continually surprisingly independent Republican from South Carolina (like McCain, he is an actual vet and understands war) who took Attorney General Gonzales and the administration to task in how they treat prisoners by saying they were "playing cute with the law" and has offered some interesting 3rd Way approaches to the Social Security plans, has written a good op-ed for the Washington Post (sorry you have to sign in- it is free) along with Jane Harmon, Democratic representative on the need for higher standards and better rules regarding interrogation of prisoners.
