Lotso Links on Shiavo with a little commentary and a rant

A few more interesting things regarding the Shiavo case include (and will update this today as I find other things- various sources including Jesus Politics)...

The most indepth coverage is at the St. Pete Times, my favorite Florida newspaper and the local paper for the situation.

St. Pete Times columnist Howard Troxler on the unprecendented amount of responses he has recieved due to the coverage. Most of it supporting the removal of the tube. There are some interesting and thought provoking comments from area residents, including Christians. The article that provoked this response is here (it takes the lawmakers to task in a powerful manner), along with his archives, which have some of the best coverage seen.

Heart and Soul Humor has been keeping up with the case and takes the Administration and Congressional leaders to task fro their hypocrisy on this issue, as well as the way they seem to be playing politics, instead of showing genuine concern for the woman. This quickie is on Frist's political games and the rumors of a document on using this issue for political gain. More on the manipulative games, Bush's elimination of care for brain trauma vicitims from the 2005 budget, and ways Bush can really fight for the rights of those who are unable to care for themselves. She gives a lot of food for thought, all from a faith based background.

Some liberals think this is an attempt at Christian Theocracy and make a few good points, while the New York Times talks of the split on the GOP Right over this issue. Jesus Politics points to Delay's hypocrisy (one of my favorite topics) along with Maureen Dowd, who is just plained frightened of Tom Delay and his theocratic friends. I guess when you are shown to be completely unethical, you must act like you care about something besides money and power!

There are many more items I will add today. I am filtering the stuff so you can just read the god stuff.

---------------------------------Updated, 5 p.m. on Thursday-------------------------------

An article from the St. Pete Times regarding the Shiavo case from 15 years ago.

Another St. Pete Times article on the differing responses from Christians in the area (who contact them- they are different from the "official" church positions- could this be what we used to call "The Priesthood of the Believer?"- which is no longer in effect for Southern Baptists) is not on the web, which is really frustrating, but you can find the comments on their guestbook.

From a liberal source, this column regarding the "pandering" of the right. It is interesting because of the quotes (which are verifiable) from the ever-wonderful Tom Delay, such as telling his supporters that God gave them terri Shiavo to show how evil the left is. Opportunism?

Speaking of which (my commentary coming), if SAVING TERRI SHIAVO's LIFE IS SO IMPORTANT TO TOM DELAY AND THE CONGRESSIONAL REPUBLICANS, WHY DID THEY WAIT UNTIL HER FEEDING TUBE WAS TAKEN OUT TO DO ANYTHING?

THEY HAD MONTHS (no they had years) TO ENACT SOME MEANINGFUL LEGISLATION TO SAVE HER BUT SAT ON THEIR COLLECTIVE BUMS UNTIL IT WAS A CRISIS SO THEY COULD PANDER AND PREEN BEFORE THEIR BASE (disgusting and sickening political opportunism). Somebody answer that question for me, huh? Sorry, I just got myself peeved again.

By the way, Sojourner has a commentary on end of life issues (registration warning)
