Doug Pagitt does not believe anyone should read the Bible outside of community. By the way, is he interpreting Scripture or standing between this woman and her interpretation of Scripture?
Doug has publically stated that American Christians should not be allowed to have a quite time and read the bible by themselves.
Although it was hyperbole and he has probably disavowed the statement, which is the point of Hauerwas' Unleashing the Scripture, his point was that we are too selfish and indivuidualistic to properly interpret the Bible on our own. We need to read it with others to be released from our selfish individualistic readings.

Does that make any sense at all?
