HAPPY BUY NOTHING DAY

One of my favorite holidays is almost upon us. Are you prepared for Buy Nothing Day? Check out these sites to prepare yourself for the ultimate in consumer resistance to the powers that be which steal our souls every November and December.

I encourage everyone to find ways to "unplug the Christmas machine" and remind themselves of the incarnation of Christ which we celebrate. It is my prayer that these upcoming holidays remind Christians of the counter cultural nature of their faith (counter cultural to the powers of Patriotism, Nationalism, xenophobia, consumerism, the American Dream, safety and security and every other shallow pursuit this Babylon has to offer us).

It is my prayer that through an even more simplified holiday season my family can learn and be remined of this Gospel which scatters the proud, brings down the rulers from their thrones, lifts up the humble, fills the hungry with good things and sends the rich away empty (Luke 1:51-53) and turns the kingdom of this world upside down.
