beyond quagmire

Rolling Stone gathered a group of experts on the fiasco in the desert to discuss the best case scenario, worst case scenario and what will probably happen. Included on the panel are a former NSA, a counter terrorism czar, reporter, retired general (member JCS), chair of Senate Intelligence Committee, former Middle East ambassador, former counterterrorism lead for CIA, another former CIA chief and a Middle East professor.

Best Case Scenario: Civil War and Stronger Al Qaeda

Worst Case Scenario: World War III

Most likely Scenario: Years of Ethnic Cleansing and War with Iran

final quote from Retired General McPeak:

This is a dark chapter in our history. Whatever else happens, our country's
international standing has been frittered away by people who don't have the
foggiest understanding of how the hell the world works. America has been
conducting an experiment for the past six years, trying to validate the
proposition that it really doesn't make any difference who you elect
president. Now we know the result of that experiment [laughs].
If a guy is stupid, it makes a big difference.

It is only about 3 pages long and quite good. Read the whole thing here.
