quote of the day

Wanna learn what some people not in the church think of our top authors versus Jesus?

Matt Taibbi, the Rolling Stone political correspondent gets to the heart of matter regarding the prosperity gospel while complaining about John McCain putting Joel Osteen at the top of his list of writers in an effort to reach out to Christians- warning it is a harsh assessment of a religious leader by a "pagan" journalist:
"Standing at the meeting, I didn't write Osteen's name down in my notebook- apparently because my brain refused on some level to accept that McCain had actually said it. Of all the vile, fake, lying-ass, money-grubbing shyster scumbags on the face of this planet, there is perhaps none more loathsome than Osteen, a human haircut with plastic baseball-size teeth who has made a fortune selling the appalling only-in-America idea that terrestrial greed is actually a form of Christian devotion. "God wants us to prosper financially, to have plenty of money, to fulfill the destiny He has laid out for us," Osteen once wrote. This is the revolting, snake-oil-selling ___head that John McCain actually chose to pimp as number one on his list of inspirational authors. So much for "go sell everything you have and give to the poor," and all that other hippie crap from the New Testament."

A mind that has been stretched will never return to its original dimension.

This - to my way of thinking - is everything that is wrong with McCain. He is "conservative" on his positions, but I do NOT believe it is out of conviction. I think it is political expediency. A guy who understands so little about evangelicalism that he would trumpet a connection to John Hagee!?! and pick Joel Osteen!?! at the top of his list of writers is a guy who has absolutely NO CLUE about evangelicalism. It's remarkable that Obama - who supports abortion up to and including sucking a poor kid's brains out of it's skull - is more acquainted with evangelicalism than McCain!
