the bright side of Russia's invasion of Georgia

Brian and his Pythonian friends told us to always look on the bright side. So, in light of that advice, I should be cheering for the latest news out of the former Soviet Union and one of its annoying former (and future?) satellites. link

You see, my college major was something called Political Communications, which is nothing more than a combo political science degree and mass communications degree (e.g. prep for law school or life as a political operative). Being the late 80's I took an inordinate amount of classes on communism, the Cold War, Russian and Chinese politics, etc, even qualifying for an emphasis on communist political theory (I was thinking of working for the FBI at the time). A couple of years later, the wall was gone, the Evil Empire had fallen and all that understanding of Russian political history and thought seemed for naught.

So, in light of the Cold War's new beginning and the Evil Empire deciding to invade other nations to bend them to their will (trust me friends, the USA at its worst during the War on Terror has nothing on these guys- if you don't believe that... step away from Chomsky and Yoder for the moment and read a little history and political theory for once), I guess I should be excited. At least some aspects of my degree could come in handy once more.

Cliff's note on the crisis for those mildly interested
